Half Moon Bar Lodge.

After an excellent breakfast at Black Bar Lodge we get back in our driftboats and we fish, enjoy the rapids of Kelsey Creek Canyon and if you like we will take a short tour of Zane Grey's cabin where he fly fished for steelhead and wrote some of his more famous Western novels.

Rogue River driftboat; old style.

Take time to visit some of the historic items on display at the Strauss property. Like this old wooden boat that was the predecessor of our modern day McKenzie style driftboats. Then on to our lunch spot where we enjoy the mornings catch at lunch.

The Chinook salmon fishing Coho salmon fishing, and steelhead fishing is excellent on the second day with many 1/2 pounders (1 year old steelhead), adult steelhead, Chinook salmon, Coho salmon and an occasional surprise; sturgeon! Here is Stewart with his monster sturgeon, up to seven feet long. This one was caught September 17, 1997 by Stuart Clark with a 9 1/2 foot Lamiglas 'noodle rod' using 8# test line. It was 59 1/2 inches long with a girth of 22 inches. It weighed over 80 pounds.

Rogue River smoked salmon and steelhead.

Nothing beats fresh salmon and steelhead fillets barbecued and smoked over Alder on the bank of the Rogue River. Its one of the most delicious lunches you can have on the river. We also deep fry the steelhead for a new taste sensation. Our marinated salmon in a soy sauce, brown sugar, Marsala wine, lemon juice and butter marinade is also a treat smoked in Rosemary Sprigs.

This truly is a wonderful place. Guides and locals that have lived in the area for years look forward to putting on the river with as much excitement as they did on their very first trip. After the rafting and kayaking season, many of the guides get together and float this river for our year-end gift to ourselves. It's magnificent!

Our second nights lodging is at Half Moon Bar lodge or Paradise Lodge. But first we have to run Mule Creek Canyon.
