Lower Rogue River Canyon Report.

Water temperature at Grants Pass: 50 degrees.

Weather: Sunny all three days, showers the first day.

Cherry, Rick and Louis Hershberger joined us for a superb late Fall three day/two night Rogue River Canyon fishing trip. The evenings and mornings were cool and crisp but our boat heaters and forced air heater fans made us very comfortable. Once the sun shined on us we had warm clear skies and we were the only ones on the river. Our feelings were similar to those of the first travelers and explorers on this beautiful river. The fishing was simply awesome and watching the Chinook salmon spawning in just about every riffle was a real treat offering the assurance that our Fall fishing will be good for many years to come. We caught Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, adult steelhead and half pounders.

I worked for Noah's fishing adventures on a four day/three night fishing trip. We had great weather and the fishing was awesome. I fished Steve and Kevin the first day. They caught numerous half-pounders and a 25" and 25 1/2" adult steelhead respectively. Sorry no pictures, my camera was out of batteries. The second day I fished Bob and Lenny. Plenty of fish hooked but we experienced trouble keeping the fish on the hook.

Water Temperature at Grants Pass: 61 degrees.

Weather: Sunny all four days.

Jim Hardy and Jeremy Rich were our guests, Matt Shore their guide. Also on the trip were Paco Stevens guide trainee and Anne Scott/Don Kirkendall.

Fishing was slow the first day but picked up on day two with enough fish for lunch. Day three was better with steelhead in the morning and we got into the Chinook salmon in the afternoon. Day four was a dandy with very large Chinook salmon caught plus some jack Chinook salmon. Take a look at the pictures.

Lower Rogue River Canyon Report.

Water Temperature at Grants Pass: 68 degrees.

Weather: Sunny two days rained the last two days.

Jeannie and Warren Davis, Becky Lind-Snook, Don Lind, Chris Lind and Jeff Lind were our guests. The guides were Matt Shore, Kale Frieze and Don Kirkendall. Fishing was slow the first day due to the warm water temperatures, but we managed to get one Chinook salmon for the second days lunch. Day two guide Matt Shore got his guests (Jeannie and Davis) into 9 half pounders while flyfishing for steelhead. Kale got his guests (Don Lind and Jeff) into several half pounders while steelhead fishing with flys. Don helped his guests (Becky and Chris) catch one Chinook salmon and several steelhead on plugs. Day three Matt helped his guests (Chris and Jeff) land 16 steelhead while flyfishing with numerous other hookups. Kale and Don put their guests onto several jack salmon and Don Lind caught a real nice 25# Chinook salmon. Day four we hit the jackpot. It had been raining, which brought the water temperature down and the turbidity up to produce a great fourth day bite. Matt fished (Don and Chris) and caught the salmon pictured below. Kale also got (Becky and Jeff) onto some salmon. Don had a great day with (Jeannie and Davis), they hooked fourteen salmon and landed these eight. Check out the pic's.

Nathan and Tom McClure tried their luck at late Springer/Fall Chinook salmon fishing today below Gold Ray Dam. Fishing was a little tuff in the early morning with several pull downs on our Kwikfish but they didn't stay hooked up. They learned to back bounce salmon roe good enough to finally boat two fish at about 12 noon. Here is Nathan with a beautiful Fall Chinook.

Macky and Alan Plotkin visited us today to give steelhead fishing their first try. The steelhead bite was awesome with over 10 hookups. Their first hookup was during the lesson part of the trip on the side of the river when Macky hooked a very nice steelhead while learning how to let the plugs out and hold the rod properly. They found that after hooking a Summer run steelhead, boatind them is not so easy. They went home with two nice hatchery run fish.

Ian and Derek Covert had a great first time steelhead fishing experience today on the Upper Rogue River. Things got started a little slow this morning without a bit until 11 am. After that first fish we managed to hook five more fish with a total for the day of six steelhead hooked, four landed, consisting of 3 hatchery fish to take home and one unclipped fish released. Here are some pictures. Look at this one of Ian.

The Spring Chinook salmon fishing is still red hot. Fish numbers are high with over 30,000 fish at the last count. Gordon Godfrey and his son Lou cashed in on a early morning bite to tag two fish by 7 am. A hefty 26 pounder for Lou and Gordon wrestled in a 22 pounder. It has been a early morning bite due to low clear water. Pictures to follow. We are also beginning to catch some nice Summer-run steelhead up to 10 pounds.
