Fall 2006 Rogue River Lodge float trips.

Fall Chinook salmon, Coho salmon and steelhead fishing report.

Well folks we experienced another 'full' season this year. We can run 16 Fall fishing trips a year and we had 13 in 2006. Needless the say that I couldn't keep up the salmon fishing report page this last Fall. The short story is that we met many, many new fishing friends and saw a good number of our previous guests return. Rather then bore you with all of the stories, I will let the pic's do the talking below. Enjoy and come see us in 2007.

'Springer' Chinook salmon fishing report.

I ran a Upper Rogue River salmon fish trip on Tuesday with the father/son team of Ted & Doug Brokel. The water was in terrific shape. As you may know the Spring salmon run is sketchy at best with only 5500 Chinook salmon over Gold Rey Dam as of this week. However we had great fishing with one steelhead hooked and lost, 5 Cutthroat Trout on the fly and this huge salmon.

Winter steelhead fishing report.

Matt Shore ran a Umpqua River steelhead fish trip, catching the water when it had just become fishable again. Heres one of the fish caught that day.

Winter steelhead fishing report.

Matt Shore has a 'real job' this year but that doesn't keep him from guiding on the weekends. Here are two fish that were landed on a five fish hooked day in high water. There has been more then a sufficient water level this year.

Winter steelhead fishing report.

The trips to Mexico put me on the West Coast long enough to come back to Oregon long enough to squeeze in a Winter steelhead fishing trip on the Upper Rogue River. It was a little early in the year for the Upper Rogue but we still managed 5 hookups and 2 fish landed. Here is a picture of one. Enjoy!

Winter San Quintin, Baja Mexico fishing report.

Left for San Quintin with Alan and Mark at dark thirty towing Alans beautiful 2301 Striper. Arrived Friday afternoon and everyone was Jonesing to get out. Picked are way through the shallow water to the open ocean and was greeted with big waves and high winds. Decided to wait until Saturday morning. Saturday morning awoke to clear skies, no wind and flat seas. It was perfect and so was the fishing with everyone putting fish in the cooler. Sunday provided the same thing except it was even nicer, if that was possible. Returned home Monday morning. Got to do this trip again.

Puerto Vallarta fishing report.

Well sometimes things don't go exactly as planned but you make the best of it. I fished with Matt Gerns on his 36' Uniflite in Puerto Vallarta then Matt took Brian and I on a exploratory trip 140 miles South to Bahia Navidad. We after making lots of excellent bait we fished Monday the 23rd out at Corbetenia Rock and drifted the kite all day for one smallish tuna that pulled the kite out of the sky but didn't stick and a small grouper off the bottom plus a big mystery fish that we never made eye contact with. There were plenty of tuna there but the water was puke green and they were chasing small squid. On the way in there were tons of Jack Trevally in the bay so we slow trolled baits and it was pretty wide open on 20lb+ fish. Just as we left a seiner came in and was making choke passes around the rock. Figuring that the seiner had fished the area out, calculating the water wasn't any good and more importantly hearing that the Bahia de Navidad Marlin tournament 2 days prior had produced (10) 600 pound+ Blue Marlins, we ended up going down to Bahia De Navidad for a three day Marlin hunt. About 140 miles south of PV we located a nice area of stripe marlin and got 7 fish and missed at least that many for 2 days of fishing. We spent one night in the Navidad Marina, what a bitchen place. The other day was spent retrieving (2) 40' wooden bow pulpits off the beach of my friends house in a place called Impala, about 16 miles south of Point Corrientes and hoisting them on to Matts boat and transported them to PV.The wind was steady 20knts and gusting to 30. We got pounded pretty good for 2hrs until we got around the point and had a better angle but the wind blew the whole way into the harbor. Things need to clean up for fishing to improve. Here are a few shots of the trip.
